Our Services

What Our Stump Grinding Service Covers

Our stump grinding service is built around one purpose: clearing what is in the way of the work you actually want done. Most of our stump removal jobs come up alongside a fence or deck project, when a stump sits right where a post line or footing needs to go.

We also grind stumps as a standalone job for homeowners who just want a yard clear of old, unsightly roots and tripping hazards. Either way, the ground gets leveled and prepped so grass can grow back or new construction can move forward without a hidden obstacle underneath.

This service pairs naturally with everything else we build. If a stump is sitting in the path of new backyard fencing or a deck footprint, we can often handle the grinding and the build in one coordinated visit.

When Stump Grinding Makes Sense

Stumps do not always look like a problem until you start planning a project around them. Here are the situations where our stump grinding service comes up most:

  • A new fence line runs directly through an old tree stump
  • A deck footprint or footing location has a stump underneath it
  • A stump is a mowing hazard or tripping risk in an open yard
  • Multiple stumps are left over from storm damage or a recent tree removal
  • A yard is being regraded or reseeded and roots need to come out
  • A commercial property needs a clear, level line for a fence or gate installation

If your situation does not match the list above, call us anyway. Most stump jobs are simple to scope over the phone or with a quick look at the property.

Why it matters

Benefits of Clearing Stumps the Right Way

Grinding a stump properly means more than knocking down what shows above ground. We take the stump and root ball down below grade so it will not resurface, resprout, or interfere with fence posts and footings set later.

Homeowners planning custom fencing or a new deck save time and avoid surprises when the stump is handled before the crew arrives to build. A property that is already clear also lets us set post lines straighter and pour concrete pads without working around obstacles.

Beyond project prep, a stump-free yard is simply safer and easier to maintain. It is one less hazard for kids, pets, mowers, and anyone walking the property after dark.

Why Choose Us

Why Greensboro Homeowners Choose In-Line for Stump Grinding

In-Line Custom Fencing is a family-owned fence contractor and deck builder contractor, and stump grinding is part of how we get properties ready to build on. Here is what that looks like in practice.

  • Owners on Site

Dennis and Will handle the walkthrough and the work themselves, so the person who quotes the job is the person who shows up to do it.

  • Built Around Your Project

We grind stumps with the fence line, deck footprint, or yard plan already in mind, not as a disconnected side job.

  • One Crew, Start to Finish

The same team that removes the stump can frame the deck or set the fence posts right behind it, with no separate contractor to schedule.

  • Licensed and Insured

Every stump grinding job is covered the same as our fencing and deck work, so you are protected from the first cut to the final cleanup.

How it works

Our Stump Grinding Process

Whether you need one stump gone or several cleared ahead of a bigger build, the process stays simple and predictable from the first call.

  • Step 1: Tell Us What You Need Gone

Call or request an estimate online. Let us know how many stumps you have and whether they are tied to a fence, deck, or general yard cleanup.

  • Step 2: Walk the Property with an Owner

Dennis or Will looks at the stump locations, checks for anything nearby like utility lines or existing landscaping, and gives you a clear price before work starts.

  • Step 3: Grind It Out

We grind each stump and root ball down below grade so it will not resprout or sit in the way of a new post, footing, or slab.

  • Step 4: Clean Up and Prep the Ground

We haul off the ground-up debris and leave the area level, whether that means ready for grass seed or ready for our crew to start building.

★★★★★

During the recent Labor Day Weekend storm we had the unfortunate experience of having an approximately 24 inch diameter tree come down on the roof of our home. Since there was a lot of damage in the area it was difficult to get someone to come out (with the required crane) to remove the tree from on top of our house. I wanted to let everyone know that In-Line Fencing (Will) responded quickly and got a crew with a crane to out home in approximately 36 hours and was able to get the tree removed. The job and communication were very professional, the work well down, and the clean up of the tree/roots/branches excellent as well as quick. If you encounter the unfortunate experience of having a tree come down during a storm, I would definitely highly recommend using Will at In-Line Fencing.

We hired In-line to fix a botched job done by a different gate company (Sierra Structures). Dennis immediately thought of a creative solution whereas others were stumped. He quickly installed new poles that were appropriate for the weight of the gate and repositioned and reprogrammed our automatic solar gate so that now it works great. We highly recommend In-line and Dennis.

★★★★★

Very professional and good communication between me and the scheduling guy. A wet summer made our start date impossible but In-Line kept in contact until the weather permitted them to progress. They had to have the underground utilities located a second time and pull equipment off other jobs but they got it completed before the weather made the ground soggy again. A tiny amount of damage to my neighbor's fence was repaired before it was ever noticed. Highly recommended these hard working folks

I am extremely happy with my experience with In-Line Custom Fence. Dennis and Will Schneider were great to work with -- professional and polite and knowledgable. My old fence was removed and the new one installed in about six hours. Amazing!!! They also installed some posts for outdoor lighting which looked really, really nice. Well done!

In-Line is honest and fair. Dennis and Will are hard working, respectful and conscientious. They arrive when they say they will and do a great job at everything they do, including completing the job when they say they will. They don’t just do fencing. They did tree and stump removal, put in a French drain and graded the yard after bringing in good quality fill and topsoil at a very reasonable price. They did all of this at a very economical price. We will never use any other company.

I recently had In-Line Custom Fence replace my old deck on my house. They did an excellent job. Dennis, Will and the crew were great to work with throughout the entire project. A big part of why I chose In-Line was due to my initial contact with Dennis. At the time, he was on vacation in Greece and offered to start looking at the project if I sent him some photos. I told him I would be happy to wait until he got back but, that type of commitment and service was appreciated. The day he got back he contacted me and all through the project he kept me up to date on progress and communicated very well. He also saved me money and proposed some changes to my plan that resulted in a better design. I would highly recommend In-Line Custom Fence for any of the services they offer which obviously is more then fencing. . Dennis and Will are very easy to work with, do good work and offer a fair price.

Common questions

Answers before you call

These come up most often. There are more on the FAQs page, and an owner will answer anything specific to your property on the phone.

Read all FAQs
Do you take on commercial fencing projects?

Yes. Alongside residential work we handle commercial chain link, perimeter and site-security fencing, plus automated gates for commercial properties. Call us to talk through the site and the scope.

What fencing materials do you work with?

Aluminum, vinyl, wood and chain link, in both residential and commercial applications. We will walk the property with you and talk through which material suits the use, the grade and the budget.

Do you build anything besides fencing?

Yes. We build decks, pergolas and hand railings, pour the concrete that goes with them, and grind out stumps that are in the way of a new fence line or deck footprint.

Will the owners actually be on my job?

Yes. Dennis and his brother Will stay directly involved on every job site rather than sending out an unfamiliar crew. That is how the workmanship stays consistent and the communication stays clear.

Whether one old stump is sitting where your new fence needs to go or your yard just needs a fresh start, In-Line Custom Fencing can grind it out and clean up after. Call and tell us what you are working with, or request a free estimate and an owner will walk the property with you.
